Impacts of Fast Fashion

We have all heard of the term “fast fashion” what does this mean? Fast fashion is also known as disposable fashion. Brands that produce fast fashion garments are easy to spot. The products are trend based, low cost and come in numerous colour variations. The problem with these products is that they are not made to be worn season after season, instead they are made to be worn once or twice before being discarded. Unfortunately, less than 1% of clothing is recycled globally, which means more than 99% of all clothing ultimately ends up in landfill.

Landfill can have many negative effects on our environment, a few of which are air pollution, ground water pollution and soil pollution.
-Air pollution is caused by toxic wastes, such as bleach and acid, which can be hazardous when inhaled.
-Ground water pollution is caused by toxic wastes that leech into the ground, and ultimately into the ground water. This contaminated water can cause serious health effects and even death.
-Soil pollution is caused by hazardous chemicals that leak into the soil from waste which can inhibit plant growth and be harmful to animals and human who come into contact with it.

So how can you make a difference? You can recycle your products and demand that businesses only use recycled materials…like remedy does :)
